Military Police Company to host open house
In commemorating a Minnesota National Guard unit’s arrival to the Stillwater community, the 34th Military Police Company will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25 at the historic Stillwater Armory.
The 34th MP Co. will welcome visitors and guests with refreshments and a variety of activities and displays, including a NASCAR simulator, an inflatable obstacle course, military weapons, tours of the facility, and a Humvee as well as a running video display of the 34th MP Co. in action.
Since arriving at the Stillwater Armory in November, the 34th MP Co. has made many improvements to the facility. The ultimate goal is to restore the building to its original condition and open the facility to the community for events.
Soldiers of the 34th MP Co. will be on hand all day to answer questions. Visitors will find Soldiers around the armory in every standard issue uniform: the current Army Combat Uniform, the desert camouflage, the Army physical fitness uniforms, the formal Class A and B uniforms, as well as the new “Dress Blue” uniforms, to be issued beginning in 2008.
Family Readiness Group members will also be available at the open house.
The 34th MP Co. has deployed eight times since Sept. 11, including two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. A total of 48 Soldiers were sent on those deployments. The 34th MP Co. was deployed to the Minneapolis / St. Paul International Airport immediately following the Sept. 11 attacks.
Soldiers of the 34th MP Co. are trained to perform a variety of tasks during both peacetime and war. The company is capable of supporting the U.S. Army with a trained and ready combat force. Additionally, the 34th MP Co. is prepared to support the State of Minnesota with troops capable of assisting civil authorities in a disaster. Military police have five main operations and responsibilities: maneuver and mobility, area security, internment and resettlement, law and order, and intelligence.
Members of the media are invited to attend the open house 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25 at the historic Stillwater Armory, 107 East Chestnut Street, MN 55082. For more information, including photos, audio podcast and unit information, visit www.MinnesotaNationalGuard.org. |
