Veteran Plates
Minnesota veterans and members of the military with Iraq and Afghanistan campaign medals, and recipients of the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary or Service medals may now purchase a special license plate to show pride in their service to our country. You may apply for personalized plates at a deputy registrar office or by mail. To be eligible to purchase the plates, one must provide a special plate application and a copy of their DD-214 or orders showing they have been awarded the appropriate medal. Applicants still on active duty must provide a letter from their commanding officer detailing where the applicant served and that they received a campaign, expeditionary or service medal. Support Our Troops license plates may be displayed on passenger vehicles, one-ton pickups and recreational vehicles and motorcycles.

Initial Application Fees: $10 plate fee, $8.50 filing fee, $30 contribution fee

Contribution: The minimum annual contribution is $30, which is due with your initial application and each registration renewal. You may contribute more if you wish. Your contribution is split between the Department of Military Affairs for financial support of military families and the Department of Veteran Affairs for grant programs for homeless and needy veterans.
