DESCRIPTION: Lt. James Reese Europe and the regimental band of the 369th were famous, not only in America but throughout France where they introduced audiences to "le jazz." Europe's Clef Club Orchestra appeared at Carnegie Hall in 1912, 1913 and 1914. One American writer said that popular music first invaded the concert auditorium when Europe played Carnegie Hall.
