Sgt. Laura L. Mercado, S1 was surprised to see her husband at Camp Atterbury, Ind. He paid for his own flight from El Paso, Texas and hotel just to surprise his wife. The couple has three children at home with the youngest of being five. From the deserts of Iraq to the 30 degree temperatures of Indiana, Sgt. Mercado and other Soldiers from the 147th Personnel Services Battalion (147th PSB) and 458th (USAR postal) returned from a year long deployment at Camp Atterbury, Ind. on Feb. 9th. The mission of the Soldier was to provide Personnel Service Support to the Soldiers serving in the Afghanistan area of operation, to include promotions, identification cards, track incoming and outgoing Soldiers and civilians in and out of the area. They also provided Postal Support for all Soldiers and civilians in the Afghanistan area of operations.
