Return of the 34th Combat Aviation Brigade More than 600 Soldiers from the St. Paul-based 34th Combat Aviation Brigade are returning from a deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Soldiers are returning in two groups. On Tuesday, May 12, the first group consisting of more than 100 Soldiers arrived at Volk Field, Wis. They will spend five to seven days in Wisconsin undergoing post deployment processing before returning to Minnesota to reunite with their families. The 34th CAB deployed as the command element of “Task Force 34” and served as a Multi-National Corps-Iraq (MNC-I) Corps Aviation Brigade conducting full spectrum aviation operations throughout Iraq. Task Force 34 provided a stable and secure environment allowing the Iraqi National Government the ability to assume more responsibility for the security and governmental functions of Iraq. As the Soldiers exited the plane, many were excited just to feel the cool breeze and see the green grass. After turning in the weapons that had been a part of their everyday life for a year, many sat in the grass, pulled out their cell phones and called home. It was a great visual reminder to be thankful for the little things, such as a nice spring day or calling home to say hello. The Soldiers will be reunited with their families at a later date. The exact date and location of the Welcome Home Ceremonies will be published when available. by Sgt. Dajon Schafer, Minnesota National Guard Public Affairs May 12, 2009
