Minnesota National Guard
Employers
Introduction

The Minnesota National Guard relies on the support of employers statewide to support the Soldiers and Airmen of the Minnesota National Guard.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency that seeks to promote a culture in which all American employers support and value the military service of their employees.  We recognize outstanding employer support, increase awareness of the law and resolve conflicts through mediation.

In 2011 the Minn. ESGR team tracked 85 Outreach Events, 4,401 Committee Volunteer hours, 572 Statements of Support, 342 Patriot Awards, 30 Above and Beyond Awards, three Pro-Patria Awards and a Freedom Award for 3M. These efforts assisted 11,246 Service members and 3,011 employers.

Reemployment of Returning Service members

Hiring a veteran is good business. Start at PositivelyMinnesota.com/Veterans, where you'll be connected to a clear, three step process to hire a veteran. PositivelyMinnesota.com/Veterans is where perspective employers and veterans looking for work meet, and good business gets better. The three steps are:

o STEP ONE: Post your available job on MinnesotaWorks.net, and label it "veteran-friendly." A web tutorial will lead you in this process.

o STEP TWO: Visit your nearest Minnesota Workforce Center and contact a veterans employment representative. Let them know you want to hire a veteran.

o STEP THREE:
Connect with your local Yellow Ribbon Network to find Service members that may be looking for a new opportunity. Find your network at BeyondTheYellowRibbon.org.

The three step process was developed and is supported by the Interagency Employment Work Group or IEWG. The IEWG is a state-wide partnership to counter veteran unemployment. Some of these partners include: the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), Minnesota Department of Veteran Affairs, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU), Department of Defense Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program, County Veteran Service Advisors, Yellow Ribbon Networks, Employment Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) and all branches of service.
