Minnesota National Guard
UK - Minnesota "Virtual Exchange" Program
Overview

Students in two Minnesota cities currently utilize the National Guard's distance learning classrooms to conduct a “virtual exchange” program with a partner school in England via video conferencing. Students in both countries get to know each other, learn about their respective countries’ similarities and differences.

Current “virtual exchange” partnerships include:

Shattuck-St. Mary's Academy in Faribault and Kelly College, Tavistock, England are in their third year of partnership. The schools focus on current events in the world. Cultural and educational differences are also explored. The highlight of each year's exchange has been a video conference between the two schools and Iraq in which students can directly ask deployed Soldiers, both American and British, about their personal experiences in the War on Terror.

Jackson County Central, in Jackson Minnesota and Lawley Primary School in Wellington England are in their second year of 'virtual exchange". 4th grade students on both sides of the Atlantic are learning about their daily lives, school activities and each other's communities.
