Drop and Landing Zones
Introduction

The Drop Zones can be used for either cargo or personnel. The Landing Zone can accommodate up to C-130 aircraft. Each DZ has more than one usable azimuth for approaches. All of the DZs except Eva are located within a restricted area. Aircraft will contact Miller Tower on 126.2 VHF, 254.4 UHF or 49.2 FM prior to entering and while in their airspace for clearance into R-4301. Users must coordinate with Range Control in advance to reserve DZ. Use of surrounding airspace should be coordinated with 133rd Airlift Wing Tactics at DSN 783-2488. Commercial phone is (612) 725-5611 or 5681. This is due to noise sensitive areas around Camp Ripley.
Kalahar Landing

Zone Kalahar LZ is co-located with the tactical landing strip at Miller Army Airfield. Aircraft will contact Miller Tower on 126.2 VHF, 254.4 UHF or 49.2 FM prior to entering and while in their airspace. There are multiple water towers located 2700 feet from the approach end of runway 31R and 31L (31L is the Kalahar LZ - dirt strip).  These towers are approximately 129 feet AGL and are immediately to the left of the approach corridor. Aircraft will maneuver while in the patter to remain outside of R-4301 unless clearance to enter is obtained from Miller Tower.

Miller Army Airfield is now Class "D" Airspace up to and including 3,700 AGL and 3.9 NM Radius from the airfield.
Arno Drop Zone

Avoid over flying farms located near DZ. Aircraft will contact Miller Tower on 126.2 VHF, 254.4 UHF or 49.2 FM prior to entering and while in their airspace.  Arno Road should be closed during all airborne operations. Three small ponds within 1000m of PI, floatation devices required IAW USASOC reg. 350-2.  If there is a hazardous body of water within 1000m of dispersion area, each parachutist will be inspected to be sure he is wearing a B 17 life preserver properly.  Controlling unit will contact Camp Ripley Range Control for aircraft clearance. Aircraft will contact MAAF on VHF 126.2 / UHF 254.4 to de-conflict with possible traffic. DZ has trees 10 to 20 feet tall along the boarders, large rocks were present along the east to west dirt road on the southern end of the DZ during time of last survey.  Axis ingress/egress routes should be coordinated with Camp Ripley Range Control.

Approaches:
Arno Circular
Arno North to South
Arno South to North
Ripley Drop Zone

Axis ingress / egress routes should be coordinated with Camp Ripley Range Control.  Aircraft will contact Miller Tower on 126.2 VHF, 254.4 UHF or 49.2 FM prior to entering and while in their airspace.  Scattered trees located on DZ 10 to 20 ft. tall.  Normandy and Cody roads should be closed during all airborne operations.
Mississippi River located east of DZ, pers. Flotation devices recommended at discretion of user.  Small range observation shack located on north side of Normandy road.  Controlling unit will contact Camp Ripley Range Control for aircraft clearance. Aircraft will contact MAAF on VHF 126.2 / UHF 254.4 to de-conflict with possible traffic.

Approaches:
Ripley Circular
Ripley North to South
Ripley South to North
Eva Drop Zone

Aircraft will contact Miller Tower on 126.2 VHF, 254.4 UHF or 49.2 FM prior to entering and while in their airspace. Recommend day single ship visual drops, DZ does not have sufficient width for formation or SKE drops.  ATC tower 947 yards, heading 358° magnetic from PPI.  Assault strip has 2' x 6' panels marking both sides or runway down the entire length, main runway has 2' tall lights on shoulders for night markings as well as navigation equipment located on the airfield.  Using unit will brief jumpers on these hazards. Left traffic is recommended to avoid R4301 north of DZ. There are multiple water towers located 2700 feet from the approach end of runway 31R and 31L (31L is the Kalahar LZ - dirt strip).  These towers are approximately 129 feet AGL and are immediately to the left of the approach corridor.

Approaches:
Eva
